Honua uses cost-effective treatment systems that perform from an operational standpoint and are time-tested in the U.S. medical waste industry. The heart of Honua’s system is the Pyrolytic Destructor. The Pyrolytic Destructor does what most alternative technologies can not do, destroy pathological wastes and chemotherapy wastes. It is also capable of treating other categories of special wastes, including heat resistant prions and reducing the volume of radioactive wastes.

For the general medical waste stream, Honua employs autoclaving to efficiently and cost-effectively render large volumes of medical "red bag" and "sharps" wastes non-infectious and safe for disposal. Honua uses its proprietary heat recovery systems and thermal energy cogeneration control equipment to maximize the transfer of energy from the Pyrolytic Destructor to autoclaves. This lowers the energy requirement and thus, operating cost of the autoclaves.

Finally, Honua employs proprietary sharps containment and washing systems to enable medical waste facilities and hospitals to safely handle and reuse sharps containers, allowing dramatic cost savings compared to conventional disposable sharps containers.
